American Academy in Rome Fellowship

The Association for Preservation Technology International (APT) is honored to continue its affiliation with the American Academy in Rome (AAR). This affiliation allows APT to offer a 4-week fellowship designed to allow a seasoned professional to research a topic that advances the mission of APT and directly impacts the field of historic preservation. The APT AAR fellow is expected to conduct research while participating at the AAR program in Rome. This will allow the APT AAR fellow to interact with Rome Prize and other Affiliated Fellows who are researching various topics, supporting collegiality and inspiration in each other’s work.

The APT AAR fellow will reside at the American Academy in Rome in a space provided by the Academy, with lunch and dinner to be served by the Rome Sustainable Food Project, a team of Alice Waters’ chefs at the Academy’s villa. The selected fellow may choose to stay for an additional two weeks (total of 6 weeks) at the fellow’s personal expense, at a prorated cost determined by the AAR. Dates of the fellow’s time in Rome will be determined by the availability of space at AAR. The Academy will provide the APT AAR fellow with a choice of 2-3 time slots at the Academy for study in Rome, from September 2025 - June 2026. Once selected, the APT AAR fellow is expected to commit to the chosen period of study without exception.

The application process opens March 1, 2025, and closes April 15, 2025.

Interviews will be conducted in April via phone and/or Zoom with the shortlisted applicants. The fellowship recipient will be announced in May.
